Album : Tanah Lot
The name Tanah Lot (often mispronounced by English-speaking tourists as a joke, "tan a lot") comes from the Balinese language, meaning the Land in the Middle of the Sea. Tanah Lot is about an hour away from Kuta, and it's actually a temple on top of a giant offshore rock formation, surviving from erosion since more than five hundred years. It was built around the 15th century by a Hindu priest called Nirartha, as a shrine to the Balinese Sea Goddess.
Tanah Lot is very renowned for its beautiful decor, which attracts millions of visitors over the years. A vast park is designed along its mainland coast, with commercial markets and restaurants.
